Residents of Oleshky in Kherson Oblast will have a 48-hour window to receive supplies and evacuate. The pause begins the night of October 27, creating a short corridor for humanitarian access in the occupied territory.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a video address that the arrangement should take effect soon. He described the current conditions as dire and noted that Russian forces have placed mines on local roads. The planned operation aims to restore access, deliver food and medicine, and allow people to leave the combat zone.
The White House claimed that First Lady Melania Trump secured the truce. In a statement, the administration described a humanitarian disaster as unfolding in the town. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia agreed to the ceasefire to facilitate the mission.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, set the specific date for the humanitarian operation at October 29. He indicated that the mission will proceed while the ceasefire remains in force.
Zelenskyy said negotiations have continued at various levels. He added that Ukraine will fulfill its obligations and relies on American mediation to function effectively.
