Anthropic has officially entered the crowded market of personal productivity assistants with the launch of Claude Duet. The company is positioning this new application as a specialized tool for professionals and small businesses, aiming to distinguish itself from a growing list of competitors including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo. By focusing on task automation and management, Anthropic seeks to capture user attention in a sector where new assistants are launching with increasing frequency.

The first key takeaway is that Claude Duet is designed for business workflows rather than personal errands. Anthropic explicitly differentiates its product from personal agents like Instinct, noting that Duet is not intended for booking tickets or handling minor chores. Additionally, the agent does not provide a live visual feed of its browser activities. Instead, it focuses on high-value professional tasks such as generating daily briefings, creating data dashboards, and suggesting specific actions based on user information.

Secondly, the agent operates by completing tasks in the background using its own virtual machine. This allows users to continue their work while Duet processes requests. If the agent encounters a decision point that requires human input, it will pause and ask for approval before proceeding. This background execution model is standard among current agent technologies but is a core feature of this release.

Third, the platform boasts extensive connectivity and integration capabilities. Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Claude Duet can connect to more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This breadth of integration allows the agent to interact with a wide variety of existing software tools, a significant advantage in the current market shift from simple chatbots to autonomous agents that work on behalf of users.

In terms of financial transactions, Duet can make online purchases through Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, Anthropic has established clear boundaries to maintain user control. Sensitive steps, including any payments, require explicit user approval. The agent is not authorized to trade securities or transfer money between different accounts, a limitation designed to mitigate risk for business users.

Security remains a priority in this release. Anthropic introduced a new classifier that scans every message to prevent sensitive information from leaking out. By default, the agent will reject requests asking for credit card numbers or government identification. This proactive approach to data protection aligns with the needs of the professional demographic the app targets.

Claude Duet is currently available in a research preview for Pro and Max customers. It can be accessed via the web through Claude.ai, as well as through dedicated applications for iOS and Android. Interested users must currently join a waitlist to gain access to the platform.
