SpaceX's AI Pivot Sends Stock Skyward as Analysts Double Price Targets
A massive shift toward artificial intelligence infrastructure has transformed SpaceX's financial outlook, prompting a wave of optimistic upgrades from Wall Street.

For investors holding shares of SpaceX, the trading session on October 21 marked a significant shift in sentiment. Following a strong report released after the market close on October 20, the stock jumped approximately 8 percent in early premarket trading. This surge reflects a broader re-evaluation of the company’s value, driven by a strategic pivot that has moved SpaceX beyond its traditional launch and satellite roots into the high-growth world of artificial intelligence.
The numbers behind this rally are striking. SpaceX reported third-quarter revenue of $14.6 billion, a 161 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This figure comfortably exceeded the consensus estimate of roughly $12.7 billion. Profitability also improved dramatically, with the company posting a net profit of $4.4 billion, reversing a loss from the prior year. Adjusted EBITDA reached $8.8 billion, signaling strong operational efficiency.
The primary driver of this growth is the company’s Super Intelligence division, which generated approximately $7.6 billion in revenue. This segment, growing nearly 830 percent year-over-year, has become the largest contributor to the company’s total income. Meanwhile, the Connectivity segment delivered $5.2 billion, supported by a consumer base for Starlink that has expanded to 13.6 million subscribers.
CEO Elon Musk and CFO Bret Johnsen provided guidance that far exceeded expectations during the earnings call. They outlined first-quarter 2027 revenue projections of $33 billion to $37 billion, significantly higher than the $22 billion analysts had modeled. Additionally, the company plans to spend $35 billion to $40 billion on capital expenditures in the fourth quarter, with a specific focus on building AI compute infrastructure at sites in Memphis and Southaven.
Management’s ambitions regarding compute capacity are equally aggressive. The company targets 2.5 to 3 gigawatts of nameplate capacity by the end of the year, with pathways to reach 13 gigawatts or more by late 2027. Musk noted that demand from hyperscalers remains relentless, and current pricing supports payback periods of less than a year, with some potentially as short as six months. This rapid return on investment is a key factor in the company's expanding margins.
Beyond the AI push, SpaceX highlighted several other operational successes. These include recent orbital milestones for the Starship vehicle and the deployment of V3 satellites. The company also noted rapid adoption of its Grok Bot and progress in spectrum expansion plans. Notably, special committees were formed to explore a possible combination with Tesla, adding another layer of strategic significance to the stock's performance.
Wall Street’s reaction has been swift and positive. JPMorgan more than doubled its price target to $500 from $240, maintaining an Overweight rating. Cantor Fitzgerald raised its target to $345, while Barclays and Morgan Stanley both set targets at $300. Citi increased its target to $240, and UBS moved to $230. TD Cowen raised its outlook to $224, and other firms like Wells Fargo and Clear Street also adjusted their targets higher.
These adjustments reflect a growing conviction in SpaceX’s trajectory across launch, connectivity, and its new AI business. While the elevated spending on infrastructure remains a point of focus for some, the immediate financial results have convinced analysts that the company’s long-term earnings power is stronger than previously thought. The stock’s premarket jump on October 21 serves as a clear indicator that the market is ready to price in this new era of growth.
As the company continues to expand its AI compute capabilities, the focus for shareholders will likely remain on execution. The ability to meet the ambitious targets for gigawatt capacity and revenue growth will determine whether the current valuation holds. For now, the combination of record revenue and a clear path to profitability has made SpaceX one of the most talked-about names on the market.
