Samsung is preparing to release a China-exclusive foldable smartphone on October 29, according to a leak from Ice Universe. The device, identified as the Galaxy W27, will carry a price tag that is $1,000 higher than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

The leaker shared an image showing the phone’s distinctive design. It features a glossy blue back panel and gold accents surrounding the triple-camera array. The hardware specifications align with the top-tier Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, confirming the W27 is a rebranded version of that model rather than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8.

This launch continues a yearly Samsung tradition of creating special variants for the Chinese market. These devices typically include unique styling and elaborate packaging. The W27 follows the 2024 Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition, which received a wider release but remains an exception to the China-only pattern.

The choice to base the W27 on the Ultra model stands out. Samsung is skipping the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, which features a new shape that has been well-received by customers. The W27 instead mirrors the wider format that is gaining ground in China, where competitors like Huawei and Xiaomi have also moved toward wide foldables.

The release arrives as Samsung maintains focus on its foldable lineup. The company has stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is performing well, noting that the recent iPhone Duo has increased attention on foldable devices. Analysts project that foldable display shipments will rise by 44% in 2026 as these wider formats become more common.

Samsung has also been updating its existing Galaxy devices to Android 17. While the company has several new foldables planned for next year, the W27 will be the final foldable release for 2026 if the October 29 date holds.
