Apple has altered the experience for users who access incorrect addresses on its streaming platform. When a visitor navigates to music.apple.com/ipod or enters any non-existent path on the site, the browser now displays a functional replica of the original iPod instead of a standard error message.
The device debuted on October 23, 2001, making this web feature a commemoration of its 25th anniversary. A user identified as Kian on X first spotted the hidden element. The interface allows visitors to click the on-screen buttons to cycle through a selection of songs. Users can also click and drag the scroll wheel to move the list, mimicking the physical rotation of the hardware device.
The digital player contains tracks from artists who were popular at the time of the product's launch. Selecting a song plays a 90-second preview directly within the web interface, requiring no additional software. Apple has not released a new dedicated music player in years, so this web version serves as an interactive archive of the original design.
The company has not announced any plans for a physical hardware revival alongside this web feature. Apple Music currently costs $11.99 per month for individual subscribers. The service is also included in the Apple One bundle, which offers multiple subscriptions for a combined price.
