Apple's iPhone Duo is now available, but buyers seeking the phone's advertised capabilities must purchase additional hardware. The company’s first foldable device does not include a charger in the box, a standard practice for recent iPhones, yet specific features depend on external accessories. Tech site 9to5Mac notes that the total cost for these essential add-ons reaches $249 for those wanting the full performance profile.
The headline feature of the Duo is Apple Pencil support, a first for the iPhone lineup. Users can write notes and sketch on both the inner and outer displays. Apple stated the design draws on the proportions of a standard A-series paper notebook. This functionality arrives in the iOS 27.2 update next week and works exclusively with the Apple Pencil (USB-C). The stylus is currently listed at $69, a reduction from its original $79 price tag.
Fast charging performance also requires a separate power adapter. The iPhone Duo can reach 50 percent charge in approximately 20 minutes, but only when paired with a suitable wall charger. While many owners may already possess a 20W adapter, 9to5Mac suggests higher-output options to maximize speed. Apple’s 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max is priced at $34, down from $39. An alternative is the Anker 100W USB-C charger with a five-foot cable, available for $29.
Drivers looking to utilize the larger display have several mounting options. The ESR MagSafe Car Mount clips onto an air vent and holds the phone magnetically for $19, down from $29. This setup pairs with CarPlay to display maps on the vehicle's screen while the phone shows step-by-step directions in Apple Maps. The site anticipates that the Duo's expanded screen will improve the visibility of these navigation prompts.
Protection accessories are widely available from both Apple and third-party manufacturers. Apple offers the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand for $129 and the iPhone Duo Case for $79. Independent brands provide alternatives such as the SPIDERCASE Magnetic Case, which includes a built-in stand and screen protector for $29. The Spigen Ultra Hybrid Pro, a clear MagSafe-compatible case, is priced at $39.
The phone also updates StandBy mode, allowing users to view smart home data even when not charging. New views for Home Camera and Home Modular provide access to smart home accessories. For security monitoring, 9to5Mac recommends two HomeKit-compatible cameras: the Aqara G100 2K model at $39 and the eufy 4K camera at $69. These devices allow users to check security feeds at a glance from the phone's upright position.
AirPods Pro 3 are suggested as a general companion device for those without current earbuds. Currently on sale at Amazon for $199, down from $249, the headphones are noted for their noise cancellation capabilities, which aid focus during work. The accessory list concludes with these audio options, rounding out the recommended setup for the new foldable device.
