Apple will release iOS 27.2 next week, the next major software update for iPhone users. This release follows iOS 27.1, which is limited to the iPhone Duo, making 27.2 the broader update for the rest of the user base. The update introduces three primary changes to the operating system.
The most visible change extends the Dual Capture feature to group video calls. Dual Capture launched with iOS 27 and allows compatible iPhones to display front and rear camera views simultaneously during one-on-one calls. Users activate the rear camera by tapping the Flip button while the front camera remains active. In the new version, this functionality expands to Group FaceTime calls, allowing multiple participants to see both camera angles.
The Apple Podcasts application also receives a structural overhaul. The existing Up Next queue at the top of the Home tab is divided into two distinct sections. The first section, labeled New Episodes, replaces Up Next and lists recent releases from shows the user follows. Directly below that, a new section called Continue Playing aggregates shows that listeners have started but not finished. A 9to5Mac writer tested the beta and described the new layout as a major improvement over the previous cluttered design, noting it helps users track their listening habits more effectively.
The Apple TV app on iPhone gains user profiles for the first time. While profiles have long existed on tvOS, this is their initial appearance on iOS. Upon opening the app after the update, users will encounter a profile selection screen that can be disabled if desired. Once a profile is active, the app filters content recommendations to match the selected viewer. When a child's profile is in use, the app displays only age-appropriate Apple series and movies, keeping unsuitable material hidden from the main view.
This setup allows adults to maintain a separate viewing queue while restricting what children see on a shared device. According to the source, the update adds new features to a total of six iPhone applications. The release is scheduled for the coming week.
The update brings these tools to all eligible devices running the latest version of the software. The Dual Capture expansion requires specific iPhone models that support the feature. The podcast changes apply to the main Home tab interface. The TV app profiles require a one-time setup process for new users.
