One iPhone model gets iOS 27.1 while the rest jump straight to 27.2
Apple bypassed standard iPhones for the latest update, routing them directly to iOS 27.2 next week to streamline internal testing and maintain product secrecy.

Apple typically distributes point releases to all compatible devices, but the company broke that pattern on the night of October 22.
iOS 27.1 is available exclusively for the newly launched iPhone Duo. Owners of other iPhone models will not receive this build. Instead, Apple is skipping version 27.1 entirely for those devices.
Users checking their software updates on standard iPhones will currently see iOS 27.0.1 as the latest version. The company plans to move those devices directly to iOS 27.2, which is scheduled for general release next week.
Apple cited engineering efficiency and secrecy as the drivers for this split strategy. The iPhone Duo features custom design elements and new hardware capabilities that required isolated development. By avoiding a shared beta cycle, Apple kept specific details of the Duo under wraps until its official launch last month.
Managing the Duo's unique iOS features was reportedly simpler without the complexity of unrelated updates for older models. This approach allowed engineers to focus on the new hardware without interference from the broader software stack.
Standard iPhone users will not miss any functionality. The upcoming iOS 27.2 update includes Suggested Actions in Messages, a redesigned Apple Music interface, and user profiles for Apple TV. It also adds Dual Capture to FaceTime and expands Siri AI language support.
