Apple has scheduled an event for October 28, titled "Pro and tell," to reveal a complete redesign of its flagship laptop. While the hardware changes are extensive, the processor remains unchanged.

The new MacBook Pro is expected to start at approximately $2,999. This price point exceeds the current models by a notable margin. Buyers will pay more for a device that utilizes the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips introduced nearly eight months ago.

According to reporting from Mark Gurman, the redesign focuses on physical attributes rather than speed. The laptop will feature a lighter body and a thinner profile. The display will switch to OLED technology and add touch input capabilities. The traditional notch will be replaced by a Dynamic Island.

There is also speculation that the new model may include a C2 cellular modem. This feature is not confirmed but would allow for direct cellular connectivity. The combination of these design shifts marks a significant departure from previous MacBook Pro generations.

Apple is reportedly skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips entirely. The company plans to fast-track M7 Pro and M7 Max processors for release in 2027. This strategy leaves the current redesign to bridge the gap between the existing M5 series and the future M7 series.

The pricing decision reflects the current memory market conditions. Analysts suggested that Apple might keep the starting price the same as the current models, but this is considered unlikely. The new device will replace the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations with a higher price tag.

Apple has not officially confirmed the specifications or the pricing. The October 28 event will reveal the final product details. The company will need to justify the higher cost to professional users who have delayed purchases since the M5 launch earlier this year.
