Miami International Airport has launched a new digital system to manage its freight operations. The platform, known as the Airport Cargo Community System, was developed by the company Kalé. It went live on October 27 at the Air Cargo Forum in Miami. The system creates a shared online portal for the many companies that move goods through the airport.

The new tool replaces fragmented manual methods with a single digital interface. Freight forwarders, cargo handlers, truckers, and ground handlers can now share data in real time. This change aims to streamline supply chain logistics and reduce traffic congestion around the airport.

MIA handled a record 3.4 million U.S. tons of freight in 2025. That volume makes it the busiest freight airport in the United States and the third busiest in the world. The airport operates a daily average of 190 cargo-only flights and requires more than 1,600 truck trips to move the goods. Currently, trucks often arrive with limited information about their specific cargo types or exact arrival windows.

The new platform is designed to fix that information gap by improving truck scheduling and advanced planning. Kalé estimates that if the system is adopted across the entire cargo community, it could save up to $250 million in annual operational costs. The switch is also projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5,900 U.S. tons per year. The system aims to cut the average truck turnaround time by two hours and reduce paper handling by 15 percent.

Daniella Levine Cava, the Miami-Dade County Mayor, called the launch a key step for the airport's future. She stated that the technology supports the businesses and jobs that depend on international trade. Levine Cava said the goal is to ensure the airport remains a leader in efficiency and sustainability, not just in cargo volume. The system will also serve as the digital foundation for connecting with international partner airports.

Amar More, co-founder and chief executive officer of Kalé, noted that small inefficiencies grow quickly at this scale. More said the common digital platform allows for better collaboration and visibility across the industry. The company views MIA as a major opportunity to apply these benefits at a global cargo gateway.

MIA is currently receiving $14 billion in capital improvements and maintenance upgrades. It is the leading economic engine for Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida, generating $212 billion in business revenue annually. The airport also attracts approximately 60 percent of all international visitors to the state.

The launch marks a shift toward automated data exchange in one of the world's most complex logistics hubs. The system is now available to the airport's network of freight operators.
