Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. The win on the road in Philadelphia stopped a two-game losing streak and allowed the Cowboys to keep pace with the division leaders.
Prescott connected with CeeDee Lamb on two scores and George Pickens on one. The quarterback had thrown four interceptions in the previous two games, during which the offense managed only 29 points combined. His performance on Monday night restored the unit’s balance, as the Cowboys also rushed for more than 200 yards. This marked the first time since 1983 that Dallas achieved both 200 rushing and 200 passing yards against the Eagles.
Running back Javonte Williams carried the ball 25 times for a career-high 155 yards. He scored the final touchdown of the game from the two-yard line with 2:21 remaining. The Cowboys had not won a game in 22 days prior to this contest, having last defeated the Houston Texans on Oct. 4.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who is the playcaller for the team, remained quiet after the game despite the win. He noted that the players executed well and that his demeanor was not a sign of desperation. Prescott observed that his coach appeared hungry and determined to address the recent criticism surrounding the team’s offensive strategy. The two have a 9-13-1 record under Schottenheimer’s playcalling, which has drawn scrutiny from outside sources.
The defensive unit limited the Eagles by forcing one interception by DeMarvion Overshown and recording two sacks of quarterback Tanner McKee by Quinnen Williams and Donovan Ezeiruaku. Despite allowing the Eagles to score on their first possession of the first and second halves, the Cowboys controlled the game’s momentum for the remainder of the contest.
The result puts the Cowboys in a position to challenge the New York Giants, who hold a 4-2-1 record. According to ESPN Analytics, Dallas now has a 57% chance of winning the NFC East. The team will play at home next against the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium.
Prescott emphasized that the team must continue to earn wins in a league where no position is guaranteed. He noted that the recent victory against a struggling opponent provided necessary confidence as the season progresses.
