National elections are days away as former prime minister Naftali Bennett campaigns in Tel Aviv, where a physical altercation disrupted his campaign schedule on Saturday night. Police detained a 23-year-old man from Givatayim after he shoved a member of Bennett's security detail.

The incident occurred while Bennett addressed a rally demanding a commission of inquiry into the failures of October 7. The suspect, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, attempted to close the distance between himself and the former prime minister. He shouted the slogan “Only Bibi,” a chant supporting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while moving toward the security perimeter.

Guards instructed the man to stop, but he continued pushing forward. When a bodyguard physically pushed him back to maintain the barrier, the man retaliated by shoving the officer. The security team subdued the suspect and held him at the scene until police arrived at the park.

Officers transported the man to a police station for questioning. An initial review of his records showed no prior criminal history. Investigators are currently examining the specific circumstances of the confrontation.

Bennett served as prime minister from June 2021 to June 2022. The disturbance took place as the 2026 Knesset elections approach. IDF soldiers have already cast their ballots at military polling stations earlier this week, setting the stage for the wider public vote.
