A drone hit a train platform in Dnipro on October 29.
Russian forces struck the platform where a Dnipro-Zaporizhzhia train was standing. Ukrainian Railways said an air-raid warning had been issued in advance. An evacuation announcement was made on the electric train bound for Zaporizhzhia ten minutes before the strike, and the assistant driver checked every carriage before the crew evacuated. Evacuation announcements were also made at the station. Many people were still near the train when the drone hit.
Fourteen people were killed and 14 injured. Seven of the injured are being treated at one city hospital, said Serhii, the hospital's chief executive. Six of those seven are in serious condition. He said some patients have dozens of shrapnel entry wounds. Two are in critical condition, and intensive care doctors are working to raise their blood pressure so they can be operated on.
Serhii described one injured woman who was holding her phone when debris flew toward her head. The debris smashed the phone and lodged in it, which he said saved her life, though other pieces entered her lower abdomen and back. He reported many fractures and torn flesh among patients of various ages.
Three other patients, women aged 56 and 39 and a 19-year-old man, were taken to another facility in the city. A doctor named Tetiana said they arrived with substantial blood loss, shrapnel wounds, and traumatic shock. They had surgery immediately and are now in intensive care with stable conditions. Tetiana said none of the injured are in life-threatening condition and all will recover, and that they are receiving psychological support because they remain in shock.
Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration, said an 11-year-old boy was among the injured. A 40-year-old man had both legs amputated. Some of the injured have undergone surgery and their condition has been stabilised. Ukrainian Railways said it is conducting a second-by-second investigation into the strike.
Medical staff are continuing to treat the injured in intensive care units in Dnipro.
