A daytime dispute outside a Brooksville apartment complex escalated into gunfire, leaving one person injured and a vehicle damaged before deputies secured the scene. The incident occurred at the St. Teresa Apartments, located just south of the downtown courthouse.
Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis stated that the confrontation began between two acquaintances who argued over a speaker. The verbal fight quickly turned physical, resulting in multiple shots that struck one individual and a nearby car. Deputies locked down the complex and accounted for all parties involved within minutes of the call.
The victim called 911 from a location a few blocks away. Dispatchers initially did not know the origin of the gunfire, but investigators later confirmed the shots came from the apartment complex. Officials described the attack as targeted rather than random.
Nienhuis identified the person in custody as blind. He noted that the condition of the shooter made the lack of additional injuries a fortunate outcome. "The person we have in custody, the person of interest, the suspect in this case, is actually blind, the one who did the shooting, so it is really fortunate that there weren't more injuries," Nienhuis said.
Authorities have not yet named the suspect or the victim. The specific medical status of the injured party has also not been released to the public. No formal charges have been announced for the suspect taken into custody.
