Bath Rugby secured a 36-28 bonus-point victory over Sale at the Rec on Saturday, snapping a three-game losing streak. The home side played with noticeably more speed and efficiency than in previous weeks, entertaining a sell-out crowd with a series of well-created tries.
Joe Cokanasiga scored two tries for Bath, with Henry Arundell, Tom de Glanville, and Louie Hennessey adding to the total. Finn Russell converted four penalties and added one more from the tee. Sale responded through tries by Nathan Jibulu, Tom O'Flaherty, Luke Cowan-Dickie, and Elia Canakaivata, all converted by George Ford.
Director of rugby Johann van Graan noted the team's improved decision-making. He stated, "Last week we didn't take our opportunities, but we were much more clinical today." Van Graan highlighted the balance in the attack, specifically how Russell used the space against a physical opposition. He expressed satisfaction with the points tally, noting the team collected 16 points from their first batch of fixtures.
Back rower Miles Reid described the performance as a vital turning point for the group. Reid said the team knew the breakdown would be a key area, especially against Sale's line-out threats. He added, "It's very rare that we lose three in a row so to win today was massive." Reid observed that the forwards and backs combined effectively, helping the squad gel after a difficult stretch.
The win returns Bath to winning ways following consecutive defeats. The team now holds 10 points from their last two home games. The result stands as a 36-28 scoreline with Bath earning the bonus point for scoring four or more tries.
