The Washington Wizards defeated the Charlotte Hornets 95-79 on Friday night.

AJ Dybantsa scored 17 points during his first home appearance. Trae Young led the team with 21 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Anthony Davis added 25 points and 13 rebounds for Washington.

The Wizards controlled the third quarter by holding Charlotte to just 13 points. This performance marked the first night of NBA Cup play, a tournament held alongside the regular season.

Dybantsa missed the start of the season due to an ankle injury. He returned to action on Wednesday night in Cleveland, where he scored 19 points in a loss. Friday marked his first game in front of his home crowd.

The 19-year-old forward had an offensive rebound and dunk rejected in the fourth quarter for rim interference. Shortly after, he changed hands on a drive and scored a layup while drawing a foul. The local crowd began chanting for the Rookie of the Year award.

The Hornets struggled to find their shooting rhythm. They led by 10 points in the first quarter after going 4-for-10 from three-point range. They then made four of their next 29 attempts from long distance.

Charlotte finished the game shooting 29.7% from the field. The team made 12 of 56 three-pointers. Brandon Miller led the Hornets with 19 points. Charlotte has now been involved in the two lowest-scoring games of the NBA season, after scoring 81 points in a loss to Atlanta on October 23.
