BYD Yangwang Sets $300,000 Price for New Flagship Sedan Debuts in UAE
The 5,500mm electric vehicle will launch in the Middle East before its Chinese home market, signaling a strategic pivot toward ultra-luxury competitors like Rolls-Royce.

BYD’s Yangwang division has set the price for its new ultra-luxury electric sedan at approximately $300,000, with the model set to debut in the United Arab Emirates rather than China. General Manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed this week that the global launch will occur outside the company’s home market, though no specific date has been announced. The vehicle is expected to make its official debut this month.
The sedan measures roughly 5,500 millimeters, or 216 inches, in length, giving it dimensions comparable to the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. This positioning marks a distinct shift for BYD, a manufacturer historically associated with affordable models such as the Seagull hatchback, which sells for under $10,000 in China. The new car targets the upper end of the luxury automotive market, directly challenging established marques including Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
Hu released images of the prototype undergoing testing last month. Although the vehicle was disguised, its silhouette matched that of top-tier executive sedans. Zheng Yu, Yangwang’s executive general manager, stated that the car will feature "unprecedented disruptive technology," though he did not provide further technical specifications.
Several design and engineering details have emerged from recent reports and official displays. The sedan features rear-hinged coach doors, a first for the brand. It was also displayed at a BYD Flash Charging station, indicating support for megawatt flash charging. The model is reportedly the first to utilize the company’s solid-state batteries. Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD, told Carwow.es last month that the manufacturer’s first solid-state battery vehicle is scheduled to debut in 2027.
The new sedan sits above the current Yangwang lineup in both size and price. The existing U7 electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or $98,000. The brand’s highest-priced mass-produced vehicle is the U8L plug-in hybrid SUV, which starts at 1.45 million yuan, or $217,000. The new flagship also exceeds the price point of the U9 electric super-coupe.
Yangwang serves as the top tier of BYD’s three sub-brands, alongside Denza and FangChengBao, which operate under the main BYD name. The division showcases the company’s latest technologies, including the quad-motor e4 platform and the DiSus-X intelligent body control system. Earlier models in the Yangwang line used these systems to deliver 1,300 horsepower and allow the vehicle to maneuver on three wheels.
The decision to launch the car in the UAE first reflects BYD’s expansion into high-margin international markets. The company has broadened its lineup in recent years to include pickup trucks, three-row SUVs, and electric supercars. The new sedan represents the apex of that expansion, combining solid-state battery technology with a design profile aimed at the highest tier of the luxury automotive sector.
