Apple sold 23,000 units of its new iPhone Duo on the first day of launch. The foldable device became the company's first entry into the foldable smartphone market. Retailers reported that walk-in inventory depleted rapidly across global locations on Friday, October 23.

The timeline began with overnight queues forming outside stores in multiple countries. Apple issued a press release on Friday morning confirming that customers filled its retail spaces. Staff provided hands-on demonstrations and tailored shopping assistance. The company warned in advance that store inventory would be limited. That caution proved accurate as shelves emptied by the start of the workday.

Company leaders marked the release at specific sites. Greg Joswiak, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, stood with retail executive Vanessa Trigub at the flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York. CEO John Ternus attended the Domain NORTHSIDE location in Austin, Texas. He was joined by retail chief Deirdre O'Brien. Austin is also preparing for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix this weekend, an event Apple streams exclusively in the US.

Store employees directed disappointed shoppers to the Apple Store app for the next opportunity. They advised customers to check for available stock at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday. This digital window serves as the primary channel for those who missed the initial in-person rush. The company continues to manage distribution through both physical and digital platforms.

The launch marked a major shift in Apple's product lineup. The iPhone Duo competes directly with other foldable devices from major manufacturers. The quick sellout of walk-in units indicates strong initial demand for the new form factor. Apple will continue to restock its online and retail channels throughout the weekend.
